LEE ALEXANDER McQUEEN’S CHARITABLE ARTS FOUNDATION BRINGS BURGEONING ARTISTIC TALENT TO JOYCE
This May, under the guidance of partners and friends of the late designer Lee Alexander McQueen, a selection of works from the Sarabande Foundation’s most promising artists will be showcased in Hong Kong at JOYCE Central. Alongside previous resident designers such as Craig Green, contemporary artists, fashion designers and jewelers will exhibit samples of their seminal works and latest collections in the flagship store.
Over 20 years ago the idea for a charitable foundation was born out of the creativity and experience of Mr. Lee Alexander McQueen. Continuing his vision today, Sarabande Foundation provides support and opportunities for creatively fearless artists and designers of tomorrow.
Far from simply using the store’s walls and floors as a static gallery, the open exhibition will be brought to life with a hive of creativity.
Fuelled by their new surroundings on Queen’s Road Central, select Sarabande artists will paint, sculpt and mould their own original artworks and characters that in unison come together to form Not A Family Tree | The Anomalies.
Welcoming these artists on their visit to Hong Kong, JOYCE invites the talents to bring the space to life in a riot of colour and activity. Live window and front-of-shop installations will take place from Thursday 16th May. Artist and designer Joshua Beaty will use locally sourced objets trouvés to fill the theatrical vitrine of the flagship store. Sculptor Judas Companion -Jasmin Reif will install dozens of masks across the walls of the front entrance stairwell, while artist Saelia Aparicio will live paint murals over the course of three days, inhabiting the lobby walls with her signature tree people and sculptures. Jewelry artist Castro Smith will be available to custom engrave pieces for customers by appointment at his in-store workbench.
The JOYCE x Sarabande Foundation pop-up store will open on May 17th until June 12th with a range of Joshua Beaty brooches, menswear from Craig Green, DANSHAN and John Alexander Skelton, womenswear from Roberts Wood as well as jewelery by Castro Smith, Charlotte Garnet and Emily F Barrett available for purchase. Customers are invited to join visiting artists and patrons, including Founding Trustee Trino Verkade, for the vernissage at JOYCE Central on Friday 17th May.
